Canton, August 2nd., 1907.
In continuation of my Despatch No. 118 (4244/06) of the 24th. ultimo to His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government, I have the honour to state that the information which y. have been able to obtain as to the quantity and fineness of the new Canton dollars issued to date places the number at 500,000 and gives the touch as 90 per cent silver. As far as I can gather these coins are not being minted in any fixed periodical quantity. Subsidiary coinage has not so far been recommenced.
